While we wait

While we wait

It has been 9 long months but the wait is over. And while I waited for my little baby girl to arrive, I found myself doing various tasks around the house to get the time to pass. As I went along I added things to my to-do list and every time I added something it seemed as if I would never get my list done.

Cleaning the house – several times. Including washing the windows on the inside and outside. Washing our sofa cover. Cleaning the entire kitchen, inside and outside the cabins. And the usual dusting and vacuuming.

Washing baby clothes. I still had some clothes from my son that I though were unisex which I dug out while I simultaneously went through his old clothes and gave some away for donation. I also received a lot of clothes from colleges that needed a wash and some new clothes I bough just for our baby girl.

Sewing. I actually did quite a lot of sewing while I waited for the baby to arrive. I had a list of things I wanted to make and it was a perfect time to get around to it since I had a lot of spare time on my hands. The only tricky part was getting around to cut out all the fabric since my belly was mostly in the way. But I did manage to make a jacket, a bedsheet and up-cycling some old clothes.

Baking. Now I wish I did more of this but manage to make a cake or two, one of which was a delicious carrot cake.

Colouring my hair. The last week I was really bored and scratched my brain to find something to do. I got more and more sick of seeing my dull hair so I ordered some hair bleach and colour. When my products finally arrived I took my hairdressing skills to the test and changed my hair.

Making YouTube videos. Now I knew I wanted to have a little break from filming when the baby arrived so I decided to pre film a couple of videos which I will post soon.

Packing our hospital bag. I waited till I was 35 weeks pregnant to get on with packing the hospital bag. If you want to see the content of my bag I will leave the video link here.

Giving my son a hair cut. Yet again I found my hairdressing skills come to use and actually managed to cut my sons hair twice before the baby arrived. I love seeing him with short, clean cut hair – it makes him look so fresh and young.

we heart it

That’s how I spend somewhat of my time waiting for our baby girl. I also had some shifts at work when they needed me and spent a lot of quality time with our son. Now a new routine awaits us and I’m excited to see what that will mean.

New office space & decor inspiration

New office space & decor inspiration

I’m finally sitting in my new office space. And you might be wondering if we’ve gotten a third room.. well, not exactly. Over new years we decided to have our son back in our room after he stayed in his own room for 3 months. Baby call and all installed of course. I actually loved having our bedroom more spacious and back to it’s usually self but since my husband wanted to venture into the unknown space of streaming, we compromised on a solution. Now we both have our space in our sons bedroom. For a while at least. Besides, our son is just a bit over 1 year and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with having him close to us for a little while longer. Soon he’ll be begging to stay in his room and I’m sure there will come an age where he won’t even climb into our bed any more.

So I’ve been diving into the interior front lately, searching for inspiration. And when I decide to do anything, the whole house has to get a remodel or at least get a clean out. There are few things as satisfying as cleaning and de-cluttering. What I’m searching for now is a dresser, either white or in wood where I can do a little DIY project. Over the dresser where my son’s clothes are, I would like a grid wall where I can hang different pictures. If I don’t find that, I think I’ll just hang the pictures directly on the wall. Perfect for inspiration and also great for filming YouTube videos.

Hopefully all this will happen in the next coming weeks. And when I’m done I’ll shoot a office tour, insha’Allah.

His first birthday

His first birthday

This past Monday we celebrated our son’s first birthday. Can you believe a year has gone by so fast? I cannot. I can’t believe my baby boy is one. It seems as if it was yesterday that we rushed to the hospital – a car ride that seemed would never end. And a few hours later he entered this wonder, crazy world. Two days later we were home, all alone, just us three. It was the weirdest feeling in the world suddenly having a tiny human being to take care of. Just you and your partner. But I think we managed quite well, if I may say so myself. Just look at us now, a year later. Still learning but we are an amazing little family and I can’t wait to expand. But for now one is more than enough.

I decorated as little as I could but someone’s first birthday should be celebrated, even though he won’t remember any of it. I guess the celebration was more for me, and maybe also my mum.

I was baking and cleaning since the morning and even though we were only 8 people, I managed to bake up some scones, carrot muffins and a banana bread. All well received, even though the scones looked like bread to be honest. But the banana bread was definitely a success.

I had a slideshow going on in the background on the TV. Pictures all from the day he was born until now. And I also picked out 13 pictures that I hung between two doors with a big one sign over them. He also got a puzzle for 1-4 year olds & a book about ‘Finding Dory’ from my mum, a new toy from my best friend and a sled from my brother and dad.

Hopefully this year things will slow down a bit. Until next year!

DIY closet door knobs

DIY closet door knobs

I finally got these crystal knobs for our bedroom closets. When we moved in here there were only these boring white ones from IKEA and I’ve thought about making it a bit more classy for a while now. I browsed through the web and found these from an interior store. You can find all kinds of unnecessary stuff there but also some really cute bits and bobs.

I love how the light catches the sparkles – it makes the whole room get a bit more class. You can find them here: Diamond knobs

Simple changes like these make my day. You don’t always have to invest in a whole new closet to get a new look.

Hijab: Modanisa // Top: H&M // Shoes: H&M // Sunglasses: H&M // Pants: Made by me

I took these pictures a few days ago when I was going for a walk. And when I came across an empty space with no one around I had to take out my camera and put it on self timer before I started posing around by my self. Things you’ll do for a good outfit post. But I love doing it so I don’t mind at all. Besides, I’m so much more comfortable alone then when someone else takes my photos.

Today was spend with family before we came home a couple of hours ago. Now it’s time for some relaxing time and then I’ll be going to bed.

Make your own jeans jacket

Make your own jeans jacket

A little while back I made a deal with myself that I would use up all the fabric that I’ve already purchased before I buy any new. So I looked in my fabric box and found a lot of denim. This idea came out of the blue but perfectly timed because my old jeans jacket is a bit too tiny and too tight, for a hijabi that is.

To make this jacket you’ll need:

  • Front/back and sleeve pattern
  • Fabric (I chose a light and a dark denim color)
  • White thread and/or a strong thread
  • Twin needle & denim needle
  • Measuring tape
  • Scissors
  • Pins
  • and a seem ripper, if anything goes wrong.

  • I made my pattern out of tracing the front of a dress which you can use for both the front and back piece. And a long sleeved shirt for the sleeves.
  • Line up, pin down and cut out your choice of fabric. Pin the front and back shoulder seems by laying the fabric right sides together and sew. Lay down your jacket, wrong sides up and pin your sleeves in place and sew. When you’ve finished you can sew the sleeves seems together and down your waist from your sleeve on both sides.

img_1356

  • If you want you can add pockets which I just traced out by hand and placed at both sides. This is fairly simple to do and didn’t t use a pattern just some chalk and drew my desired design on to the fabric. Cut it out and do an overlock seem. If you don’t have an overlock machine you can use your sewing machine. You have to do this so that the fabric won’t distress. Now you only have to sew the pockets on to the front of your jacket.
  • Now I started seem rip the ends of the sleeve and at the opening of the jacket cause I thought I wanted a distressed cool look. After doing so, and waisting endless amount of time, I found out that it didn’t look good at all and I wouldn’t use this jacket. So the only do to do was to cut away those ends and make a nice overlock seem on the ends. I continuing on with a twin needle to do a hemmed seem at the bottom and around the opening of the jacket and at the sleeves. I used a white thread because I wanted the seem to be seen but that’s up to you.

Happy Wednesday

Happy Wednesday

I’ve already awake the last five hours, eaten breakfast & lunch, which usually doesn’t happen before I’m at work. I’ve also finished painting the wall in the living room and the cabinet doors in our room, which concludes my DIY project. The clock is ticking away and I’m off to work soon.

I’ve seen the most incredible full moon the last couple of days and it can still be seen over the horizon in the early morning. And when I see a view so magnificent I can’t help but to think that no man could ever paint a picture that beautiful. I even tried to take some photographs but I couldn’t capture the colors and the full size of it. It truly is created perfectly by God.

I wish you all a happy Wednesday! Enjoy the day that has been given to you.

Monday

Monday

Yes, the day has come again.. Monday. Good morning! It’s sunny and still a bit frosty outside and a new week has begun. My day already started off when the alarm clock rang at 6 am. There was really no point in going back to bed so I stayed up, drank my morning coffee in silence and ate breakfast. After this post I’ll be on my way to buy some DIY things that I want to get ahead of at home. I feel that spring is coming now that February almost is over and I thought it would be time to freshen up at home a little bit. Stay tuned!

Happy Monday, make the most of today!
